Koppers Ignites a Partnership with Michigan Fire Department

October 25, 2023
Koppers recently donated $10,000 to the Tamarack City Volunteer Fire Department, neighbor of our Hubbell, Michigan, facility, in support of their need for new National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) compliant personal protective equipment used by firefighters, known as turnout gear. 👨‍🚒
Compliant turnout gear is not only key in protecting firefighters from high heat and chemical exposure but necessary to ensuring the safety of those they assist. The gear the department was using was between 18 to 21 years old and in poor condition, with NFPA recommending that the gear be replaced every 10 years. 🚒 🚨
The department had $50,000 set aside for the gear but needed an additional $20,000 to meet their goal. After being turned down by three separate grants, the Tamarack department reached out to local companies for any help regarding the matter. Koppers Corporate Giving was quick to get on board and provide $10,000 towards the gear.
With the help of Koppers and other organizations, the department was able to achieve their funding goal and get the new gear! Koppers Hubbell employees Mark Karpinen and Troy Vandiver were also able to go to the fire department and see the crew try on their new items.
Koppers is proud to have helped these local heroes and help improve the safety of their department! 🙌
